Weaving to Heal – Collective Communal Consciousness

Weaving to Heal,” an Art Therapy program where Collective Communal Consciousness is its  foundation and breadth, aspires to be a series of creative projects that focuses on enhancing and improving the meditative and healing states of  well being.

Collective Communal Consciousness is an art movement that brings the community together by spreading the message of Art Therapy through healing.  CCC was founded in September 2008 by Cynthia Alberto.  Through various fiber and textile art projects, CCC encourages all to participate in the creation of a new meditative language through which we can  all communicate – based on humanity, humility and creativity. When a community can interact through this language, we give deeper meaning to activity, tactility and the creation of object and artifact.

These projects will employ the powers of the Weaving Hand Loom – a hand-made upright tapestry loom, designed by Taylor Hall and conceptualized by Cynthia Alberto. This 10ft high X 7ft wide loom, hand-crafted of exquisite maple, is also a traveling tool that serves and provides a healing message through craft and Art Therapy. By inviting the community to weave what is most relevant and precious to their current distressing state, we will practice how to transform pain. Whether the circumstances are created by terminal illness, emotional stress, mental disabilities, or imprisonment, we would be honored to nurture your creative spirit as we work with you through this healing process.

These events are made possible with private and public donations.  A percentage of the donations are given to organizations that host the Weaving Hand Loom. In addition,  finished  artworks are auctioned or donated. Please join us as we heal our community through these empowering and transforming events.

Helping others is part of being a Kappa Sigma. Brothers spend thousands of hours working in their communities and raise thousands of dollars for worthy causes each year.  As part of this year’s community service project and with the help of a local organization called Weaving Hand we plan to weave a large American flag, with the help of the brothers and the community. The Brothers will start working on the flag a week prior to the event to have of the flag partially woven before the event. At the event the community will be asked to come and complete the flag, each person adding a strip of fabric in appreciation of our soldiers. This is what the loom was made for, Collective Communal Conscious projects. Collective Communal Consciousness brings the community together by spreading the message through Art Therapy.

This American flag is being Woven to help show appreciation for our soldiers, past and present. The event will take place Sunday October 9 at 12:00 Pm. All donations made at the event will go to the Military Heroes Campaign. Once the flag is completed it will be donated to the Fisher House in Washington D.C.
